We’ve all experienced it. That remorseful moment after we’ve sent a text that we desperately wish we could take back. Well thanks to app-trepreneur Maci Peterson, there’s now an app to alleviate that stress.
Maci’s brainchild, On Second Thought, is an app that lets you take back text messages before they’re delivered to the intended recipient. Currently available on Android, the app allows you to set a grace period of up to 60 seconds for all messages, then swipe left to recall a message, or right to delete it altogether during the grace period. Even more brilliant, the app allows you to initiate a “curfew” feature for yourself for those nights you predict you’ll have a little too much to drink and get that irresistible urge to text your ex. Your messages are paused until the next morning, which allows you to decide if you really want to send that “I miss you” message.
Maci, whose background is in marketing and public relations, had some coding experience but not enough to code her own app. So she partnered with a friend with the right skill set, Stewart Voit (co-founder), to bring On Second Thought to life. Similar to Sheena Allen and Chinedu Echeruo, who we profiled earlier this week, Maci is a prime example that you don’t have to be a born coder or entrenched in highly technical fields to be an app developer. If you have an idea, take a chance and search marketplaces like UpWork to find the right partners that can help execute that vision.
As a result of taking a chance, Maci won first place in the The Kauffman Foundation and Up Global SXSW pitch competition in March 2014 and she’s been picking up steam ever since. With a recent relocation to Silicon Valley, Maci is ready to take On Second Thought and her life as an entrepreneur to the next level.
